      1. Bilbao does not stream… but their program, is for the most part, washed-up Verdi (though they did have Iervolino last year!)
        still, for a smallish city with no large history in opera, quite a showing.

  7. the male chour has make-up mirrors and holds them wrong way out?
    or is that a pitch for the next Olympic Games?

    (had to read up on the plot again real quick… I only remember the moon, Rabbit Maid and piny mezzo)

      1. The trick works: Buonafede describes what he thinks he has seen: a very beautiful young girl caressing an old man, a husband ready to punish his wife for her infidelity, and a man who completely dominates his female lover.

        pretty even across the range here, but not too smooth (though on the smooth side, color-wise), and not too light (though on the lighter side)

  23. still trying to make up my mind on the soprano – top a little tighter, and not that smoothly controlled, but nicely tinged color in middle range? Reaction speed a little slower than Clarice, but rounder tone?

    1. Clarice more uni-color with slight sharpnesses, but nicely agile. (no bottom heft, though – would have expected differently with her coloring)

      “warmer” than the one under the hood.. I’ll have to sort out upon hearing more.

      1. yes, definitely.

        in color variety, technique and phrasing, Bridelli takes the cake among the female case. It’s easy to be fooled into thinking she’s just pleasant tone because she has that whole young-conventionally pretty-even timbre thing down, but she really does a lot more if one listens closely, and has done the work to be able to apply things.

    1. i saw his glowing sneakers already in the first scene.
      (he’s got a nice tone, but i just hear it coming out the sound, telling you what the libretto is.. possibly i don’t hear tenors well 😉 )

  28. you know… there a scenes of singers involving taking on/off ties and shirt and running around in tank tops that have other effects on me than this one.

      niiice variation in both colors and dynamics. borderline overdoing at time, but after a lot of uniformity from Ecclitico i’d take this.

        in this get-up, he pushed a little vocally, but here at the end, very nice dynamic flexibility.

  44. Looks like there wasn’t much stage directing happening beyond the show choreography.

    – and on a side note, I don’t even need an aria, I would be happy to listen to a lot more recit from Bridelli. #MonteverdiansDoItBetter

    2. the phrasing. whatever she’s doing vocally, it works automatically for my brain. 100%! wow. it’s the exact thing i “look” for in singing. (ok, at some point she will put in more colors i think? but wow. am hypnotized.)

      and that aria is soo gonna be extracted, if not already on tube.

            1. (actually i think the sound is high quality, so likely from same video we watched. i think she managed to downgrade the vid quality so as not to get booted off youtube for posting her own clip…)

            2. it’s really idiotic that singers cannot post their own material for promo purposes – it is just an excerpt, not the whole thing! (audio quality is really good!)

            2. jeah, that’s what happened when you use ffmpeg and forget to pay attention to bitrate, and occasionally clips don’t start at where you want to cut 🙂 . BUt i love that she kept the audio quality undisturbed, most important!
