    His level of energy is beyond me tonight, but smooth, tying in all the chiaroscuro without making it too mannerist. (it’s the house band, right? Metal strings? Modern woodwinds?)

    This damned WordPress keeps blocking me and this time I don’t seem to be able to get around it. When asked to put in the names I want to follow I have tried adding Eye Bags, then Anik LaChev – any other names I could try? They don’t have either of those. Everything was fine for the past 2 or 3 weeks and then today pffft. I get your email but get blocked when I click on “read more of this post” or “see all comments”.

      I am sorry that there are so many issues; what you describe is new to me. When you get the email, you will have to be logged in to read posts or comments (just like now)

          But I also was never quite that taken with her, and she comes across really well here in recording, very clean and balanced. Impressive.

    2. cheap date 😀 you gotta love it when the mezzo shows up in her garbage cleaning workclothes and the soprano still throws herself at her AND the contralto isn’t sure if she won’t rather have her than the tenor!

    3. interesting. perhaps it might be where the mount the mic? remember our (I and Dehggi’s) discussion about 2nd night we were *just* at the right height and Galou’s sound came *perfectly* at us. if you’re a bit low / hi then it’s not coming was warm (hence my little comparison of sound beam..)

      1. Yes, I remember you all saying before that her voice can be difficult to hear live and I thought in the same direction of this being a mic effect. It was the same when she was lying down in one of the first scenes, you can hear the colours better (or it still might be a brain trick, she does look attractive on that couch :-))

      2. Chuckle, right, the hand gestures are spot on. The way she acts the naivety is so funny, but at the same time Statira is not just a grotesque fun figure, she is a likeable character after all, so well-meaning, living in the moment…

          1. exactly. Wasn’t that what Monteverdi wanted with Tancredi and Clorinda and somehow never got around the finishing? That’d have two characters, chainmail, lust, death and assorted kinks.

            2. I may have crossed my mind, but competing with Hauskittel!
              Also: Rinaldo edition with Almirena glasses, Semiramide with pony (of course), Ariodante with faux hawk wig (or styling wax)….I could go on forever! 😀

            1. a truly great villain, a bit lost on the simpletons around her but at least we get the relentless scheming lessons. She’s nothing if not resourceful! I want the sequel with her breaking out of “the harshest chains” (you know she will, by seducing some helpless guard who will turn into a terrorist or someone at her behest).

            3. she murders everyone and has a great vengeance aria at the end, whilst throwing her bloodied hands to the sky 😉 or something. Kinda like here but more satifying.

    2. yes, probably if you measure her against Italian soprano types? But I would also say she is a really light and bright mezzo, bordering on soprano rep.
